Economics of Illegal Immigration
One of the biggest arguments I’ve found surrounding the illegal immigration debate boils down to money. And interestingly enough, money is being used by both sides of the issue as a tool. Pro-Illegal-Immigrant proponents claim that immigrants INCREASE the local economy, while Anti-Illegal-Immigrant proponents claim they DEPLETE the local government and economy.
So which one is right? Actually both.
According to Gordon Hanson, Professor of Economics and Member of the Board of Directors for the Washington Office on Latin America, illegal immigration has both a positive and negative impact on the US economy. In short, the Federal Government and local businesses receive benefits, while local States & civil services (schools, hospitals, safety) suffer.
More details from Mr. Hanson’s interview will be in the finished documentary.
